DeckedOut on MDI 2010 Frequently Asked Questions
DeckedOut on MDI 2010 – Frequently Asked Questions
What is DeckedOut on MDI?
DeckedOut on MDI is an art auction created by the Mount Desert Island Skatepark Association (MDISA) as a way to raise money for the construction of a state-of-the-art concrete park to be located in the local Athletic Field of Bar Harbor, Maine.
How does the auction work?
MDISA purchased blank skateboards decks from a Maine mill and distributed them to artists, local students, and interested community members. Each artist customized the blank deck using whatever medium they chose, and then gave it back to the MDISA by a given deadline. Photos were taken of the completed decks, uploaded to our website, and the online segment of the auction began on August 1. On August 10, online bidding will be turned off. At that point, all of the bids will be transferred to a live art show / auction held on August 12, from 5-8pm in the Joy Building Lot in Northeast Harbor, Maine.
What if I can’t attend, but want to bid on a deck during the live auction?
If you won’t be able to attend the auction, but want to bid, or continue bidding after the online portion has ended, you should arrange ahead of time to have someone bid on your behalf. If that is not possible, we will try to arrange for one of our volunteers to place bids on your behalf during the live auction. Please email us to inquire.
What does the MDISA do with decks that don’t sell in the auction?
If there are a few decks that have not sold at the end of the auction, the MDISA will try to sell these decks at local establishments on MDI.
Can I do a deck for the auction?
As the DeckedOut on MDI art auction continues to grow, more and more people want to get involved. We love this, and are happy to have people interested in the show. However, we purchase a limited number of skate decks and cannot supply every interested artist with a deck. If you are interested in being included in the show, you can contact us at mdiskatepark@gmail.com and we will add your name to the Interested Artist list. All participating artists are the decision of the MDISA.
How can I pay for the board if I am the high bidder?
The MDISA accepts cash and checks at this time. Payment is due when the silent paper auction is over (August 12) and must be made before the deck can be taken or shipped. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the winning bidder.
