Welcome to the blog for the MDI Skatepark Association of Mount Desert Island, Maine!  We’re a group of community members committed to building a state-0f-the-art concrete skatepark for our local community and our visitors. We are skaters, parents, students, community organizers, artists, business professionals, teachers, and retired neighbors. In 2007 the Bar Harbor Town Council granted us an 8,775 sq ft space in the local athletic field to build a park if we could raise the funds. We need about $300,000 in monetary and in-kind donations to build a free and accessible public park that will last for years to come and provide a great recreation spot for youth and skateboarders and bikers of all ages.

You’ll be able to check out this blog for the latest updates on our progress (like, we’re installing a temporary ramp this spring in our location made possible by a generous grant from Healthy Acadia, a local non-profit dedicated to community health), what’s happening with local fundraising events, and when the next SkateJam is scheduled. You can post a comment about an event or even an idea you might want to share about what you’d like to see in the park. We have a Board of Directors that meets regularly ( first Thursday of the month, from 6-7:30 at the MDIHS library), our meetings are always open to the public, and we want to hear what local skaters have to say.

So please check back in – we’re just getting started, but look for information SOON about our April 3rd Band and SkateJam in Northeast Harbor!
